What to Expect from Virgin River Season 7: All the Cast, Plot, and Updates You Can’t Miss

Continuing to push toward the record as the longest show in Netflix history, Virgin River hit another major milestone when it was renewed for season 7. Based on the eponymous series of novels by author Robyn Carr, Virgin River concerns Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) who relocates to the titular Northern California town to work as a nurse and to reset her hectic life. As she has learned across six seasons thus far, a small town life is anything but easy, and Virgin River has delivered enough twists and turns to rival any other romantic drama on TV.

Keeping a yearly release schedule since 2019 (an amazing feat considering the delays of streaming TV), Virgin River’s sixth season offered a few momentous changes. Mel and Jack’s will-they-won’t-they finally came to the ultimate conclusion as the duo wed, and it was the perfect culmination of years of storytelling. However, Mel’s journey of discovery is far from over, and she has only just begun to scratch the surface of her family history. The ending of Virgin River season 6 was designed to tease a potential seventh, and Neflix has already taken the suspense away by renewing the show.

After tying the record for longest-running English language show in Netflix history with its season 7 renewal, the latest news confirms a series regular won’t return for Virgin River‘s next season. The news was broken by showrunner Patrick Sean Smith who flatly stated that Mark Ghanimé will not be reprising his role as Cameron in the upcoming seventh season. No reason was given for the actor’s depature, but the opportunity for Ghanimé to return in the future has been left on the table.

I love Mark, who plays Cameron, and I love the character of Cameron. He will always be a part of the world, and I would love to see his character back, but he won’t be a series regular in Season 7, unfortunately.

Virgin River Season 7 Is Confirmed

Season 7 Was Confirmed Before Season 6 Debuted

Even as other Netflix originals take years between seasons (Stranger ThingsWednesday, ETC), Virgin River has been the streamer’s most consistent hit.

As a testament to the confidence Netflix has in Virgin River, the streamer opted to renew the show for its seventh season two months before the debut of season 6. In October 2024, Netflix announced that Virgin River‘s record-tying season 7 would be coming soon, though the initial reveal was light on details. However, with the show’s six-season history to pull from, Netflix is likely hoping to drop another season in 2025 to keep with the yearly schedule. Even as other Netflix originals take years between seasons (Stranger ThingsWednesday, ETC), Virgin River has been the streamer’s most consistent hit.

A production timeline hasn’t been announced for season 7 yet, but it will need to follow the schedule of previous years if the show is to be delivered by late 2025. Except for seasons 3 and 4, which arrived in July, every season of Virgin River has dropped between September and December. As such, it’s safe to assume that season 7 will begin filming in the first few months of 2025 and will probably wrap around midsummer. Until more information is available, it’s expected that season 7 will premiere in fall 2025.

Mel & Jack Will Return In Season 7

In order to convey the rich and complicated tapestry that is the town of Virgin River, the series employs a massive ensemble of characters. While much isn’t known about the cast of season 7, it’s safe to assume that everyone who can return will be back, especially since season 6 pushed some characters’ storylines to the front. Alexandra Breckenridge’s Mel and Martin Henderson’s Jack are a shoo-in, and their recent nuptials have opened a new chapter in their long and storied romance.

Is The Virgin River Book Series Finished? What We Know About Robyn Carr’s Upcoming Romance Novels

Netflix’s romance series Virgin River is based on novels by Robyn Carr, but how much do the books and the television series actually align?

Elsewhere, Tim Matheson’s “Doc” Mullins jumped to the forefront with his practice being threatened by Grace Valley Hospital, and Charmaine’s (Lauren Hammersley) compelling storyline reignited in the season 6 finale after she disappeared. Though he isn’t confirmed to be the culprit, the return of the villainous Calvin (David Cubitt) makes him the prime suspect in Charmaine’s disappearance, and he’ll probably be back in season 7 too. Jack’s sister Brie (Zibby Allen), Jack’s close friend Mike (Marco Grazzini), and Dan Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) are all expected back since their romantic entanglement isn’t over yet.

Virgin River Season 7 Story Details

A Heap Of Drama Comes To Town In Season 7

Martin Henderson as Jack and Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel in Virgin River season 6, episode 10

Unsurprisingly, Virgin River season 6 was jam-packed with a host of twists and turns that will inform the plot of the upcoming season 7. Mel and Jack’s marriage was a satisfying next step for the duo that have anchored the show since episode one, and though their relationship is strong, drama swirls around them like a hurricane. Perhaps the most pressing issue going into season 7 is the fate of Charmaine (Jack’s old romantic fling). She returned to his life after the twins debacle, but so too did her old beau, Calvin.

That brought tension to the newfound nuptials as it is, but Charmaine’s odd behavior put Jack on edge. Things got especially bad when he discovered her home had been ransacked, making her absence seem more like a missing persons case. Though Calvin isn’t confirmed to be behind the trouble, he’s the most likely culprit considering his past with Charmaine. Elsewhere, “Doc” Mullins’ practice is being actively threatened by the expansion of Grace Valley Hospital, and their bureaucrats have already positioned themselves as season 7’s potential antagonists.

Finally, Mike’s proposal to Brie was made in spite of the fact that he knows about her past with Brady, and their storyline is only just beginning to heat up. Hope’s old frienemy, Muriel, also discovers that she has breast cancer, a diagnosis that will transform her life. On top of all that, Mel’s search for closure about her family history continues as her newfound relationship with her biological father, Everett, continues to reveal more unknown details. Virgin River season 7 will be momentous for a number of reasons, not the least of which is its myriad of compelling storylines.
