Production for Virgin River Season 7 is officially ongoing. The popular Netflix series is returning with new episodes in 2026. Filming started in March 2025 and will continue until June. The season will have ten episodes maintaining the format of previous seasons.
The series has been on Netflix since 2019 and remains one of the longest-running drama series on the platform. Season 6 which premiered in Dec 2024, performed well on Netflix’s global charts. It ranked as the top English-language series in its first week collecting over 67.7 million viewing hours. The show has been renewed early, just as in previous seasons and discussions for Season 8 have already started.
Andy Mikita is directing the first two episodes of Season 7. He has worked on the show since its first season and has directed several episodes. The new season will bring familiar faces and fresh characters to the screen.
New Cast Members Join the Series
Two new cast members have joined the series. Sara Canning will play Victoria, a former police officer now working as a state medical board investigator. She arrives in Virgin River to review Doc’s practice. Cody Kearsley will portray Clay, a rodeo expert searching for his lost younger sister.
What’s Next for Mel and Jack?
The storyline picks up just a few hours after the Season 6 finale. Mel and Jack, now married, begin life on their new farm. The property remains unfinished, but the couple prepares for their future. A young pregnant woman named Marley offers Mel and Jack the chance to adopt her baby. Their decision will shape the season’s plot.
New Struggles for Charmaine?
Charmaine faces a custody battle for her twins. Calvin, the father, attempts to gain rights despite her restraining order against him. The conflict might lead to unexpected challenges. Meanwhile, Preacher and Kaia’s relationship deepens as Kaia reconsiders marriage.
Brie, Brady and Mike continue their love triangle. Mike proposes to Brie. Though, she remains emotionally conflicted. Brady, who is determined to rebuild his life, searches for Lark and his missing money. Also, he considers a career change from volunteering to becoming a full time firefighter.
On the other hand, Doc’s medical license remains suspended due to an ongoing investigation. Grace Valley seeks to expand its network and remove Doc from the clinic. Hope supports Doc’s fight to reclaim his position while confronting her past with Roland, her ex-husband.
Lizzie and Denny’s Future
Lizzie and Denny look forward to the birth of their baby girl. As a result, they take their relationship slowly as they focus on their new journey as parents. Tests will determine if their daughter carries the Huntington’s disease gene.
Everett Reid strengthens his relationship with his daughter and Doc. His storyline will likely expand, allowing him to connect with more community members in Virgin River.
Netflix has yet to confirm a release date for Season 7. Given the filming schedule, the show is expected to return in early 2026. However, if post-production moves quickly, a late 2025 release remains possible.
A potential Virgin River spin-off is in development. Netflix has also launched interactive choose-your-own-adventure games based on the series. While an official greenlight for the spin-off has not been announced, the showrunner has expressed interest in expanding the Virgin River universe.
What About Season 8?
Discussions about Season 8 have already begun. Netflix remains interested in continuing the series and key cast members are under contract for another season. Alexandra Breckenridge confirmed that her contract includes eight seasons. Indicating that more stories may unfold in the future.
Virgin River Season 7 will bring fresh drama, emotional twists and new characters. Fans can expect another gripping season when it premieres on Netflix.
