The Night Agent Season 3: Full Cast, Plot Details & What to Expect Next

After two successful seasons, The Night Agent has become one of Netflix’s most popular action shows, and it comes as no surprise that season 3 is on the way too. Adapted from the eponymous novel by Matthew Quirk, the series concerns FBI Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) who finds himself going deeper and deeper into a conspiracy that concerns the highest levels of the US government. Taking a page from other exciting streaming-exclusives, The Night Agent deftly blends high-minded espionage storytelling with a heaping helping of action. Because of that, it became an instant smash and was quickly renewed.

Despite the high demand for a sophomore season, it took nearly two years for The Night Agent season 2 to finally arrive on Netflix. Delayed by various real-world issues (such as the 2023 Hollywood strikes), the action epic nevertheless persisted, and was met with high praise when it did finally arrive in early 2025. Season 2 took Peter even deeper into the world of conspiracy, and saw him face a terrorist threat that had global consequences. The ending of The Night Agent season 2 set up season 3, and Netflix had already renewed the series before season 2’s premiere.

A New Cast Member Joins Season 3

Coming months before the premiere of season 2, the latest news already confirms a new cast member for The Night Agent season 3. Announced in November 2024, Netflix revealed that Lioness breakout star Genesis Rodriguez will now play a major role in season 3 of The Night Agent. Rodriguez is likely only the first of many newcomers that will join Basso in season 3’s cast.

The Night Agent Season 3 Is Confirmed

Netflix Renewed The Show Before Season 2’s Premiere

Despite the fact that The Night Agent was knocked off course by uncontrollable real-world events, it’s clear that Netflix has no qualms about hitching their wagon to the espionage thriller.

Indicating the unwavering confidence that Netflix has in their high-octane action series, the streamer renewed The Night Agent season 3 many months before the show’s sophomore outing debuted. The news broke in October 2024 that the Gabriel Basso-led show would be coming back for more episodes, something of an unprecedented move for the usually cautious streamer. Despite the fact that The Night Agent was knocked off course by uncontrollable real-world events, it’s clear that Netflix has no qualms about hitching their wagon to the espionage thriller.

The Night Agent season 2 premiered on January 23, 2025.

Details are still somewhat scant about the next installment, but a clearer picture of the season’s story can be gleaned from the season 2 ending. As for production details, they are expected to come sooner rather than later since Netflix will likely want to streamline the show’s filming to avoid delays. While many of the platform’s bigger shows (like Wednesday and Stranger Things) languish in production limbo for years on end, The Night Agent could become another yearly staple. However, it’s unclear if a late 2025 or early 2026 release window is on the cards for season 3.

Netflix’s action thriller, The Night Agent, will be returning for a second season which has a similar storyline as season 1, but with a darker twist.

Who Will Join Gabriel Basso In Season 3’s Cast?

The cast of The Night Agent season 2 featured mostly new faces, and the only major link between the two seasons was star Gabriel Basso as FBI Agent Peter Sutherland. That trend is expected to continue into season 3, with Basso being joined by only a select few ongoing ensemble members from earlier seasons. Though she got out of the spy game and returned to her old job at the end of season 2, it’s assumed that Rose (Luciane Buchanan) will be back so that she can continue her will-they-won’t-they with Peter.

Furthermore, Peter’s boss, Catherine (Amanda Warren), should be back on hand to help guide the somewhat unruly agent through his next dangerous mission. Peter’s next target is Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum), the shady information broker who helped get the incoming President elected, meaning he’ll most likely be back in season 3 as well. The cast of season 3 has already grown with the addition of Lioness star Genesis Rodriguez in a major role, but it’s unknown who she will be playing for now. Rodriguez’s casting indicates more casting announcements are coming soon.

Peter Goes Undercover With The New President’s Information Broker

Catherine wants Peter to work off the record, and he’ll need to infiltrate Monroe’s operation to see how he helped get the President-elect into office.

Weaving several threads at once through season 2, the ending of the sophomore outing mostly served to set up the events of season 3. Finding himself locked up for giving away privileged information to broker Jacob Monroe, Peter was given a chance to redeem himself by going undercover as a mole. Catherine wants Peter to work off the record, and he’ll need to infiltrate Monroe’s operation to see how he helped get the President-elect into office. This seems to indicate that season 3 will be more about espionage than action, but things could still turn explosive.

On the personal front, Peter seems to have burned his last bridge with Rose, and she went back to civilian life and seemingly said goodbye forever. However, the attraction between the two might be too strong, and the will-they-won’t-they tension might continue in The Night Agent season 3. With Peter entering an entirely new world of shady villains and government conspiracies, he’ll be meeting a host of new faces like Genesis Rodriguez’s as-yet-unnamed major character. If Rose really is gone for good, a new romantic interest may be introduced.
