Warning: There are spoilers ahead from the Silo season 2 finale.
In the Silo season 2 finale, the suit Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) was planning on wearing is mysteriously destroyed. Much of Juliette’s season 2 story has revolved around getting back to Silo 18 before Silo‘s characters make the mistake of going outside without protective gear. This has been challenging for Juliette since the suit she was wearing when she arrived is now badly torn and can no longer protect her from Silo‘s toxic outside world.
With the information she learns from Solo/Jimmy Conroy (Steve Zahn), Juliett tries to retrieve a firefighter’s suit and an environmental helmet. After Silo season 2, episode 9, she is presented with another solution when she finds a protective suit in the Head of IT department. However, this suit is also destroyed in Silo season 2’s ending, and she must find yet another solution if she is to make it home before Silo 18’s citizens go outside.
Silo 17’s Containment Suit Was Ruined With Holes
It Was No Longer Safe To Wear Outside
When Juliette goes to put on the suit left in the IT department, she discovers it is tattered and full of holes, making it just as useless as her previously ruined suit. The suit was likely destroyed by rats, moths, or something similar in Silo 17. While no living creatures can survive in the toxic outside world, it stands to reason that rats, moths, and other creatures like them can still live underground. They are probably responsible for damaging the suit and making it unwearable.
Since Silo season 2 only covers the first book in the Hugh Howey trilogy, many viewers may be curious about what happens next in the fictional story.
At this point, Juliette is on good terms with everyone in Silo 17. She has helped all of them, and they all try to help her as well. Even Solo, who had been deceptive in the past, is focused on helping Juliette find a safe suit so she can return as quickly as possible. There is no reason for Solo or any of the survivors in Silo 17 to sabotage the IT suit. This makes rats, moths, and others of their kind the only possible culprits, although their destruction of the IT Suit ultimately works out in Juliette’s favor.
The Destroyed Containment Suit May Have Saved Juliette’s Life In Silo Season 2’s Ending
The Firefighter’s Suit Saves Her In More Than One Way
With the IT suit destroyed, Juliette ends up wearing a firefighter’s suit instead. Shortly after reentering Silo 18 and being confronted by Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins), the airlock goes up in flames. While Juliette’s fate is not yet confirmed in the show, Silo season 3 will inevitably reveal that Juliette survived because of the protection from the firefighter’s suit she was wearing. Meanwhile, Bernard’s Silo fate has been sealed, with showrunner Graham Yost confirming that Bernard is dead.
Silo has already been renewed for seasons 3 and 4.
Since Bernard was wearing the standard containment suit and died, this proves that Juliette would also have died if she had been wearing the regular suit. Only the firefighter’s suit is resistant to flames, with the regular containment suit only designed to protect the wearer from the outside world’s toxic elements. As such, the rats, moths, or whatever creatures created those holes in the IT suit ensured Juliette’s survival in Silo by making the firefighter’s suit her only option.
