Max’s Farewell: Sadie Sink Shares Emotional Reflection on Stranger Things End and the Mementos She Cherishes

Ending a long-running TV show can be difficult for any star, but one former child actor from Stranger Things is still struggling with its ending. Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the show has been standing out on Netflix since it first premiered. Unfortunately for the streamer, its run will soon be coming to an end with season 5. Filming already wrapped on December 20, 2024, and the season is expected to premiere in late 2025. Several Stranger Things spin-offs are expected, but they are not slated to feature every member of the cast.

Sadie Sink, who plays Max Mayfield, is still trying to figure out how to give her farewells. In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sink admitted that she is still working through the end of this era of her life. She has found one trick, though: She kept some mementos. Those included Max’s skateboard, Walkmans, all of Max’s shoes, and a cassette stand. Check out her full quote below:

It was really hard, really difficult to say goodbye. I think 10 years for the whole show. But I don’t know, we grew up on it, grew up with each other, like our audience grew up watching us and I don’t know. [I] took a lot. Well, just like the essentials, you know. I needed Max’s skateboard, which that was actually gifted to me, the skateboard, cool. I’ve got some Walkmans, some Kate Bush cassette stand, some vans and stuff. Like, every shoe that she’s worn.

What This Means For Stranger Things’ Ending

Stranger Things Has Made A Massive Impact

Having first premiered in 2016, the show will have been ongoing for nearly a decade. Many members of the Stranger Things cast were just 12 years old when it began. Sink, herself, was 13. Having to say goodbye to roles that have lasted through their entire teenage lives can be an extremely demanding task. The issue only worsens when considering that most of the cast had their big breaks through the show, and their careers have generally been defined by it.

Filming for the show first began in November 2015.

With the show coming to an end with Stranger Things season 5, each star will have to move on. Unfortunately, that means that they will also have to say goodbye to one another, which is proving to be the most difficult aspect for many. Several cast members, including Finn Wolfhard (Mike) and Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) have openly shared that they’re still coming to terms with leaving it behind. With season 5 still many months away, this just means the goodbye process will be drawn out, with the cast likely sharing more emotional takes over the course of the year.

Our Take On Stranger Things Goodbyes

It Is Easy To Empathize With The Stars

It is difficult enough to say goodbye to a school or team. Saying goodbye to an entire cast, after spending so many years together, must be emotionally devastating. The Stranger Things cast and crew will no longer be able to enjoy regular reunions for production. They will likely not have the time for meet-ups in general, considering that many have enjoyed wide-ranging careers in Hollywood. With so much changing for the stars, it is no wonder that Sink wanted to take a few mementos. It is hard to blame any of them if they choose to.
