The Equalizer may soon be getting a spinoff series. Following reports in late 2024 that a spinoff of the hit CBS series was being eyed by the network, the potential show has found its two lead stars.
Per Deadline, Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz are on board to guest star in an upcoming episode of the Queen Latifah-led series. The two will specifically appear in the 16th episode of the show’s current fifth season. They have reportedly signed on to potentially star in a spinoff as series regulars if the new show moves forward, but it hasn’t been officially greenlit by CBS just yet. The episode was written by Joseph C. Wilson, who will be executive producing the spinoff if CBS moves forward with the show.
Character details have been revealed for Welliver and Feliz. Welliver is playing Hudson Reed, described as a “former top CIA operative with a dark secret who is connected to Robin McCall (Queen Latifah) by an old mentor.” Feliz is playing Samantha Reed, the daughter of Bosch’s Hudson, who has been “trained by her father to be a weapons expert, skilled martial artist and true chameleon all while hiding a mysterious past.”
Welliver is known for playing the titular role in Bosch and its spinoff series, Bosch: Legacy. DC fans may also recognize him from playing Lex Luthor in Titans, as well as voicing Carmine Falcone in Batman: The Long Halloween and Rorschach last year’s animated Watchmen adaptation. His other TV roles include Sons of Anarchy, Deadwood, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Mandalorian.
Feliz may be best known for her role as Isabela Benitez-Santiago in the Amazon series Harlem. Her other TV credits include Blue Bloods, Shades of Blue, DMZ, and Fleishman Is in Trouble. She is technically a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as she had a bit part in 2016’s Doctor Strange. More recently, she appeared in Alex Garland’s 2024 movie Civil War.
CBS Opens the Door for The Equalizer to Expand Like Other Network Shows
The strategy of introducing characters in the main series to open the door for a spinoff was recently used for Fire Country. After guest starring in the hit series, Deadpool star Morena Baccarin will lead her own spinoff series, dubbed Sheriff Country. Jared Padalecki has also since guest starred on the show and there are potential plans to give him his own spinoff series as well with that character. Other big shows on the network have been expanded with spinoffs, like the NCIS and FBI franchises.
A release date hasn’t been set for the planned Equalizer spinoff which hasn’t been ordered to series at this time. New episodes of The Equalizer air Sundays at 9 PM, which will move to 10 PM starting on Feb. 18.
