Set to be released on Amazon Freevee in late 2024, Bosch: Legacy season 3 will help introduce the franchise’s latest spinoff into the mix, which makes the former LAPD detective’s upcoming tenth outing all-the-more exciting. Funnily enough, Legacy itself is a spinoff that debuted on the heels of Amazon Prime Video’s 7-season Bosch series. After the original police procedural wrapped in 2021, the streamer green-lit the sequel series with star Titus Welliver reprising his role as the now-retired Harry Bosch. A private investigator, Bosch navigates a series of cases that turn increasingly personal.
Bosch: Legacy’s sophomore outing delves into corrupt city inspector Kurt Dockweiler’s abduction of Maddie Bosch.
In Bosch: Legacy season 1, Harry teams up with several familiar faces, including high-powered defense attorney Honey “Money” Chandler (Mimi Rogers), as well as his daughter, Maddie (Madison Lintz), who’s a newly minted LAPD patrol officer. After a cliffhanger season-one finale, Legacy’s sophomore outing delves into corrupt city inspector Kurt Dockweiler’s (David Denman) abduction of Maddie. In Bosch: Legacy season 2’s ending, Dockweiler is murdered in prison — and it’s possible Harry Bosch orchestrated it. However, that’s not the only exciting story set to unfold in the third season.
Bosch: Legacy Season 3’s Crossover With The Renée Ballard Spinoff Explained
Maggie Q’s New Show Will Bring Cold Cases To Bosch: Legacy
Michael Connelly, who penned the Bosch novels, is also a crucial part of the Bosch: Legacy team. Recently, Connelly teased Bosch: Legacy season 3’s upcoming crossover potential with a new franchise spinoff — an untitled offshoot that will center on Detective Renée Ballard (via Collider). An LAPD agent who works the night shift out of the Hollywood Station in Connelly’s source material, Renée Ballard, who will be played by Designated Survivor’s Maggie Q, generally works on cold cases. Reportedly, the shows will draw on Connelly’s Desert Star novel, and Welliver will appear in both series.
The spinoff may not have a huge impact on Bosch: Legacy season 3’s core story…
Although cold cases crop up in episodes of both Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, the renewed focus on these hard-to-solve mysteries in the spinoff will add a refreshing dimension to the Bosch franchise at large. As of April 2024, not much is known about the plot of the Renée Ballard spinoff. Set to go into production soon, the spinoff may not have a huge impact on Bosch: Legacy season 3’s core story, purely due to the series’ varying release windows. Still, fans of the Bosch universe shows can expect plenty of synergy between the projects, especially in future seasons.
Renée Ballard’s Spinoff Crossing Over With Bosch: Legacy Makes It Feel Essential
The Bosch Spinoff Is Part Of The Larger Franchise
Since 2022, Connelly enthusiasts have speculated about the crossover potential between Amazon’s Bosch and Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer — another of Connelly’s popular novel series that focuses on a Los Angeles-based character, criminal-defense lawyer Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo). While that likely won’t happen due to rights issues, the Renée Ballard spinoff certainly helps the Bosch universe feel larger in scope. Although the Renée Ballard spinoff will center on its own cold cases, the planned crossovers with Bosch: Legacy will help the spinoff feel like essential viewing for Bosch fans, which will only lead to its probable success.
