Season 2 of Percy Jackson Will Feature Its Biggest Episode Yet—Here’s What to Expect

Percy Jackson & the Olympians star Walker Scobell previews season 2’s biggest episode, which features a major book moment. Continuing its adaptation of Rick Riordan’s YA book series, the Disney+ show is next expected to tackle Sea of Monsters. The novel finds Percy and his friends venturing into the titular realm, located within the Bermuda Triangle, as they seek out an ancient item that will save Camp Half-Blood from an invading threat. Not only does it feature the introduction of several new monsters, it also includes a major ocean battle. Percy Jackson season 2 is expected to premiere later this year.

Speaking to Den of Geek recently at SCAD TVfest, Scobell, who plays Percy, shared some insight into what’s ahead for Percy Jackson & the Olympians. He confirmed the upcoming season will feature the book’s pivotal Scylla and Charybdis battle in episode 4, and he promised that it’s the “biggest” installment of the show so far. Check out what he said below:

It’s its own movie to be honest. I remember that was the first table read we did where we hadn’t read it beforehand. They wanted us to all read it there and experience it for the first time with them.

What This Means For Percy Jackson Season 2

Percy Jackson Is Getting Bigger

Without getting too deep into book spoilers, Scylla and Charybdis are the mythological creatures who lurk at the entrance to the Sea of Monsters. Percy and his friends must sail past them during their quest, and it isn’t an easy task. A sea battle with massive monsters will require a great deal of special effects and stunt choreography. So far, the show’s most intense action sequence was arguably the Chimera fight in season 1, episode 4, though the Percy Jackson season 1 finale also had him duel Ares (Adam Copeland). Nevertheless, Scobell’s assertion that the season 2 battle is the biggest yet seems accurate.

Season 1, episode 4 saw Percy go head-to-head with the Chimera on the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri.

This indicates Percy Jackson & the Olympians is going bigger for its second season, a typical increase for a fantasy television show. The battle’s placement in episode 4 also gives an idea of the pacing for season 2. Season 1 had only eight episodes, and it’s expected the second season will have the same. The encounter with Scylla and Charybdis is close to halfway through the book and signals a major turning point in the plot, so it makes sense that it would fall halfway through the season. It will likely be episode 4’s climax, leaving viewers on a minor cliffhanger.

Our Take On Percy Jackson Season 2’s Big Episode

This Season Has A Lot Of Potential

Though Percy Jackson season 1 made several changes from the source material, it largely kept with the first book’s plot. It isn’t clear how much season 2 will change, but the inclusion of one of its most pivotal action scenes is a good sign. In order to maintain the excitement surrounding this series, the creative team will need to maintain a high production value going forward. If they can nail this sequence, Percy Jackson & the Olympians may become one of the strongest fantasy shows on television.
